Montpelier: Outdoor Walking Tour

Join us for an outdoor walking tour of James Madison's Montpelier that will take you through the personal and professional life of America's fourth President. You will learn how he lived and entertained with his wife Dolley, and how he came to be known as the "Father of the Constitution." Tours will move through the outdoor historic core of the site and touch on a little bit of everything: Madison the man, The Constitution & Bill of Rights, Slavery - Madison’s worst regret - and Dolley Madison, America's first First Lady.  

Cost: $25 per person plus lunch on your town. Transportation is on your own - we will carpool/caravan from church at 8:15 AM. Or you can meet us there by 9:30 AM: 11350 Constitution Highway, Montpelier Station, VA 22957.

As this will be an outdoor walking tour, it is important to keep a few points in mind.  Hopefully this information will help you manage the expectations of interested parties:
 
A few important points regarding tours at Montpelier during the COVID-19 pandemic:
  • Tours will take place RAIN OR SHINE.
  • Please be advised that as this is an outdoor walking tour, there is limited opportunity for seating.
  • Guests are encouraged to have plenty of water on hand.
  • Terrain can be rough in areas, so please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. 
  • Montpelier requires visitors on outdoor tours to wear face masks.  Tour takers are also strongly encouraged to maintain six feet social distancing from non-related participants while on tour.
  • Montpelier will require all tour participants to sign a waiver that states they are healthy and have not exhibited any signs of illness (COVID-19) in the last 14 days.  Anyone experiencing symptoms will not be permitted to attend a tour.
